Introduction: Radio-frequency identification (RFID), with its rapid growth, is one of the technologies
accepted by many organizations. This technology and its capabilities can reduce some of the risks in
operating area. This was a feasibility study of using RFID technology in management of libraries in
Kerman University of Medical Sciences, Iran.
Method: In this practical descriptive survey, the experts and authorities of libraries in Kerman University
of Medical Sciences were enrolled (50 individuals). To assess the feasibility, a questionnaire consisted of
34 questions with the validity of the 0.91 and reliability of 0.77 was used. The data were analyzed using
Student's t and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests.
Results: The technical, economic, lawful, operational, and sequential aspects indicated feasibility of
using FRID technology with a more than 70% of mean component level and the test statistic was more
than the critical value. Nevertheless, for operational aspect, the mean component level was about 60%
and the test statistic was less than the critical value. The use of RFID technology in terms of operations
would not be possible.
Discussion and Conclusion: RFID technology can be implemented however, due to operational
problems, the methods and procedures should be changed and the education and skill levels of employees
should be increased. |
