Estimating the number of medical science journals needed for publishing Iranian researcher’s articles

Introduction: The aim of this study was to predict the needed journals of Medical Sciences for publishing researcher’s articles.
Methods: This study is an applied one and was done by using a descriptive survey methodology. Statistical population of this study includes all the (341 medical journals) and (113693 researchers) of Ministry of Health and Medical Education. To estimate the optimal number of required journal, the ratio of full-time equivalent Coefficients researchers was used. A researcher-made checklist was used to collect the data and excel software was applied for analyzing the data.
Results: The findings showed that 82/40% of journals have academic affiliations and 17/60% of journals have non-academic affiliation. 43/11% of journals are in Farsi, 55/72% in English and 17/01% in Farsi - English. In terms of publication period, 45/6% of the journals are monthly, 11/73% bimonthly, 73/31% quarterly and 8/50% are biquarterly. In terms of ISI impact factor, 5/87% of the journals received ISI impact factor and 89/15% of the journals are indexed in the ISC database, that 43/99% of them has ISC impact Factor. Furthermore the findings showed that generally, 579 medical journals are needed for 27841 articles of researchers.
Discussion and Conclusion: the number of scientific journals in Ministry of Health & Medical Education is very low and more journals are needed to cover the research. |
